Communities in Madison Township
Madison Township is home to a few smaller communities.
Gorman: A Former Settlement
- Gorman used to be a small settlement within the township. It even had its own post office for a few years, from March 3, 1893, until October 13, 1902.
Madison Center: The Heart of the Township
- Madison Center is an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a city or town. It's located right in the middle of the township.
Sand Creek: A Community with History
- Sand Creek is another unincorporated community. It's found in the southwest part of the township.
- The first settlers, Joshua and Rebecca Thurber, received a land grant and moved to this area in 1820.
- Later, in 1881, the Wabash Railroad opened a train station here.
- A post office started operating on September 27, 1881. It was first named Thurber, after the early settlers.
- The name changed to Sand Creek on March 5, 1891, and then was spelled Sandcreek on June 11, 1894. It got its name from a nearby creek.
- In 1957, the post office name was changed back to Sand Creek. It's still open today and uses the 49279 ZIP Code, which serves parts of Madison Township and the surrounding area.

Madison Charter Township covers an area of about 30.65 square miles (79.38 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 30.39 square miles (78.71 square kilometers), is land. A small part, about 0.26 square miles (0.67 square kilometers), is water.
Rivers and Airports
- The south branch of the River Raisin flows through the township.
- The Lenawee County Airport is located in the northern part of the township, close to the city of Adrian.
Main Roads in the Township
Several important roads pass through Madison Township, helping people travel around.
US 223 goes through a small part of the northeast corner of the township.
M-34 (West Beecher Road) runs briefly through the northwest corner.
M-52 (North Adrian Highway) travels north to south through the center of the township.
