Madison Thomas's Filmmaking Journey
Madison Thomas has directed many interesting films and TV shows. She started her career with a movie called This Is Why We Fight. This film was a drama set after a big disaster.
Early Films and Projects
Her second movie was Ruthless Souls. She got help from Telefilm Canada to make this film. Ruthless Souls is about Jackie, an Ojibwe artist from Winnipeg's North End. Jackie is dealing with a big loss in her life. This film was shown at the Reel Pride Film Festival in Winnipeg in 2022.
Directing for Television
Madison has also directed episodes for several TV series. These include popular shows like Taken, Burden of Truth, SkyMed, and Pretty Hard Cases. In 2018, she was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award. This was for her excellent research work on the "Tina Fontaine" episode of Taken.
Award-Winning Documentary Work
In 2022, Madison Thomas's documentary about the famous singer Buffy Sainte-Marie was released. The film is called Buffy Sainte-Marie: Carry It On. It first showed at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The film received a special mention at TIFF for its powerful message. Madison also won the Directors Guild of Canada's Allan King Award for Excellence in Documentary for this film.
Her third feature film, Finality of Dusk, came out in 2023.

Madison Thomas grew up in the North End area of Winnipeg. She has a mixed background. Her family comes from both Ojibwe/Saulteaux and Russian/Ukrainian heritage. She studied filmmaking at the University of Winnipeg. This helped her learn the skills to become a director and writer.
