Ukrainians are a group of East Slavic people from Ukraine. They speak the Ukrainian language. The Russian language is also widely spoken, especially in the south and east of Ukraine.
Ukrainians are one of the largest groups of people in Europe. There are about 44 million Ukrainians in total around the world. Most of them, about 37 million, live in Ukraine.
Where Do Ukrainians Live?
The largest group of Ukrainians living outside Ukraine is in Russia. About 3 million people in Russia consider themselves Ukrainian. About 2 million Ukrainians live in North America. This includes about 890,000 in the United States and 1 million in Canada.
Many Ukrainians also live in other countries. For example, there are about 880,000 in Brazil. Around 500,000 live in Kazakhstan. Other countries with many Ukrainians include Moldova (450,000), Argentina (305,000), Poland (300,000), Belarus (250,000), and Slovakia (200,000). Ukrainian communities, called a diaspora, also exist in Germany, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Romania, and Latvia.
