The Madlenianum Opera and Theatre is a very special place in Zemun, Belgrade, Serbia. It's not just any theatre; it was the very first privately owned opera and theatre company in both Serbia and all of Southeast Europe! This means it wasn't run by the government but by a private owner.
It was founded on January 26, 1999, by Madlena Zepter, who is married to a famous Serbian businessman, Philip Zepter. The theatre's name, Madlenianum, comes from her name.
History of Madlenianum
This amazing theatre is located in the historic Old City Core of Zemun. This area is very important culturally and historically in Serbia.
The Madlenianum is a place where you can enjoy many different types of performances. It hosts opera, ballet, and concerts. You can also see drama plays and musical shows there.
The Madlenianum was officially started on December 25, 1997. It was founded by Gordan Dragović Černogorski, who was an opera and ballet director. The theatre is in a building that used to be the second stage for the National Theatre of Serbia.
It took a lot of work to make the theatre what it is today. After seven years of construction and five different stages of rebuilding, the theatre finally opened its doors to the public on April 19, 2005. It was completely renovated and ready for new shows.
