About Margaret Betts
Margaret Betts grew up with a father, Roland W. Betts, who was friends with former president George W. Bush. This connection helped Margaret learn a lot about important social issues. She worked with former first lady Laura Bush and groups like UNICEF, which is part of the United Nations. These experiences helped her care deeply about helping people and inspired her films.

The Carrier
Margaret Betts became well-known after her documentary The Carrier came out in 2010. This film was shown at the Tribeca Film Festival. The movie was inspired by her work helping to stop AIDS in South Africa. It was also shown at many other film festivals around the world.
Engram
In 2014, Betts wrote and directed a short film called Engram. It was 25 minutes long and starred Isabel Lucas and Oliver Ackland. The film is about two older strangers trying to remember a shared moment while waiting for a subway train. Margaret said the idea for Engram came from her mother's experience. Her mother survived an accident when she was young, and this inspired the film's story about memory.
Novitiate
Betts also wrote and directed the movie Novitiate in 2017. After being shown at the Sundance Film Festival, it was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize. This film tells the story of a young woman who is trying to become a nun and understand her new religious path.
The Burial
Margaret Betts also directed the 2023 movie The Burial. This film starred famous actors like Tommy Lee Jones, Jamie Foxx, and Jurnee Smollett.
