Majid Michel (born 22 September 1980) is a famous Ghanaian actor, model, and pastor. He has been nominated many times for the Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards. He finally won this important award in 2012.

Early Life and School

Majid Michel was born in Cantonments, a part of Accra, the capital city of Ghana. His father is Lebanese, and his mother is Ghanaian. He grew up in Accra with his nine brothers and sisters.

He went to St. Theresa's Primary School. Later, he attended Mfantsipim School. This school is also where other famous people, like actor Van Vicker and former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, studied.

In secondary school, Majid loved acting. He was a member of his school's Drama Club. He even won a "Best Actor Award" for one of his performances during a special event called Emancipation Day in Cape Coast, Ghana.

Majid's Acting Career

Before becoming a well-known actor, Majid Michel worked as a model. He once shared that he didn't get his first movie role because his audition wasn't very good. But his strong "passion for acting" kept him going in the film world.

His first big acting role was in a popular TV show called Things We Do for Love. In this show, he played a young Lebanese man who worked in a hotel.

Majid then got his first movie role as the main character in Divine Love. He acted alongside Jackie Aygemang, and Van Vicker had a supporting role. Divine Love was a huge hit! It made Majid Michel, Jackie Agyemang, and Van Vicker household names in Ghana.

In 2008, Majid starred in the drama Agony of the Christ. This movie received seven nominations at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2009. Majid was nominated for Best Actor for his role.

Majid Michel has shared that he earns a good amount of money for his movie roles. In October 2017, he announced that because of his strong religious beliefs, he would no longer take on roles that require him to kiss on screen.

Breaking into Nollywood

Majid Michel is one of the Ghanaian actors who became famous in the Nigerian film industry, known as Nollywood. This happened when Nigerian director Frank Rajah Arase worked with Ghanaian director Abdul Salam Mumuni. This partnership helped Ghanaian actors become popular in Nollywood, just like Nigerian stars.

Some of the movies Majid made during this time include Crime to Christ (2007), Agony of Christ (2008), Heart of Men (2009), The Game (2010), and Who Loves Me? (2010).

Majid first appeared in a Nollywood movie in 2009. It was a romantic drama called Emerald, where he played a main role with Genevieve Nnaji. While some people liked his acting in this movie, the film got mixed reviews. However, another movie from 2009, Silent Scandals, was praised for its good quality and Majid's performance.

In 2009, Majid also starred in the Nigerian drama Guilty Pleasures, which was generally well-received. In 2010, he acted with Genevieve Nnaji again in Bursting Out. He has openly admired Genevieve Nnaji, saying she taught him a lot about acting.

Early in his Nollywood career, Majid faced some challenges. At one point, it was reported that he took a break from working in Nollywood. This was because some people felt he was getting too many roles.

He then returned to Ghana and starred in films like 4 Play (2010) and its follow-up, 4 Play Reloaded (2011).

In 2012, Majid starred in the war movie Somewhere in Africa, where he played a powerful leader. Even though the movie didn't get great reviews, Majid's acting was highly praised. He won his first Africa Movie Academy Award for this role. This success helped his Nollywood career grow even more.

In 2014, he co-starred in the very popular movie 30 Days in Atlanta. This movie made him one of the top actors who brought in a lot of money at the box office that year. Other successful movies Majid was in during 2014 include Knocking on Heaven's Door and Being Mrs Elliot.
