Makakilo (which means "observing eyes" in Hawaiian) or Makakilo City is a residential area in Hawaii. It is located on the island of Oʻahu in the City & County of Honolulu. In 2020, about 19,877 people lived there. Makakilo is known as a census-designated place, which means it's an area identified by the U.S. Census Bureau for statistics.
Where is Makakilo Located?
Makakilo is found on the southern side of the Waiʻanae mountain range. It sits above the city of Kapolei. The Interstate H-1 freeway separates Makakilo from Kapolei.
If you travel east on H-1, you can reach Waipahu. The freeway ends a short distance west of Makakilo. It then turns into Farrington Highway, leading to Kahe Point and Nānākuli. Makakilo covers an area of about 3.1 square miles (9.9 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
