Makbule Atadan (born 1885, died 1956) was the only sister of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk who lived to be an adult. Atatürk was the important person who started the Republic of Turkey. Her other four brothers and sisters passed away when they were very young.

Who Was Makbule Atadan?
Makbule was born in 1885 in a city called Thessaloniki. At that time, Thessaloniki was part of the Ottoman Empire. She grew up there with her family.
After some big wars called the Balkan Wars, she and her mother, Zübeyde Hanım, moved to Istanbul.
Moving to Ankara
In 1923, a new country, the Republic of Turkey, was formed. Makbule's brother, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, became its first president. He asked Makbule and their mother to move to Ankara, the new capital city.
Later, in 1936, a special house was built for Makbule. It was called the Camlı Köşk, which means "Glass Pavilion." This house was located in the garden of the presidential Çankaya Palace.
Makbule's Short Political Life
In 1930, Makbule decided to get involved in politics. She joined a new political group called the Free Republican Party. This party was started by Fethi Okyar.
However, her time in politics was very short. Just a few months later, Fethi Okyar decided to close the party. This ended Makbule's political career.
Her Marriage
Makbule married a man named Mecdi Boysan. He was a member of the parliament, which is like the country's main law-making group.
Sharing Her Memories
Makbule Atadan wrote a book about her brother, Atatürk. The book was called "Büyük Kardeşim Atatürk" (Atatürk, My Big Brother). It was published in 1952 and shared her memories of growing up with him.
Her Final Years
Makbule Atadan passed away on January 18, 1956, in Ankara. She was 71 years old. She was buried in the Cebeci Asri cemetery.
