Make (also known as Make: or MAKE:) is an American magazine that started in February 2005. It focuses on "do-it-yourself" (DIY) projects. These projects involve things like computers, electronics, metalwork, robots, and woodworking. The magazine is for people who love to build and create. It often shows how to make cool things using simple, cheap materials, even items you find around your house. Many people see Make as a very important part of the "maker movement." This movement is all about people creating and sharing their projects.
In June 2019, the company that owned Make magazine, Maker Media, had to stop publishing. This was because they ran out of money. But the magazine was soon reorganized. It started publishing again in October 2019, releasing issues every three months. Make Community LLC now publishes the magazine.

What is Make Magazine About?
The first issue of Make magazine came out in February 2005. It was published four times a year: in February, May, August, and November. As of Fall 2023, 86 issues have been released. You can also read the magazine online.
The magazine has articles and regular sections. But the main focus is on step-by-step projects. These projects show you exactly how to build something. Each issue also has a "Toolbox" section. This part reviews new books and tools that makers might like. Most issues have a special theme. The articles in that section are usually related to the theme. Famous writers like Cory Doctorow and Bruce Sterling have written for the magazine. The cartoonist Roy Doty also drew for many issues.
Dale Dougherty, who helped start O'Reilly Media, is the founder and publisher of Make. Sherry Huss also helped found the magazine. The first editor-in-chief was Mark Frauenfelder. Today, Keith Hammond is the editor-in-chief.
In some European countries like Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, a company called Heise Zeitschriften Verlag used to publish a German version of Make. This version was made separately from the English one.
Maker Faire Events
The Make magazine team started a big public event called Maker Faire. It's a celebration of arts, crafts, engineering, and science projects. It's also about the "Do-It-Yourself" (DIY) way of thinking. The very first Maker Faire happened on April 22–23, 2006. It was held in San Mateo, California. This event had many areas for exhibits and workshops. It also had an outdoor area with over 100 makers showing their creations. There were hands-on workshops, demonstrations, and DIY competitions.
After the first one, Maker Faires started happening in more places. In 2007, they were held in the San Francisco Bay Area and Austin, Texas. By 2013, there were 100 Maker Faires around the world! These events took place in countries like China, Japan, Australia, and many cities in the United States. Most of these were "Mini" Maker Faires. These are smaller, local events organized by communities.
In 2014, the White House even hosted a Maker Faire. By 2017, more than 240 Maker Faires were planned globally. These events bring together people who love to create and share their ideas.
Makers Book
Makers is a hardback book that came from the magazine. Its full title is "All Kinds of People Making Amazing Things in Backyards, Garages, and Basements." The book is based on a section in the magazine with the same name. It features many DIY projects and tells the stories of the people who created them.
Craft Magazine
In October 2006, a new magazine called Craft was created. It was a spin-off from Make. Craft focused on art and craft activities. This allowed Make to focus only on technology and DIY projects. In February 2009, Craft magazine announced that its printed version would stop. This was due to higher production costs and fewer ads. However, Craft continued to exist online. All its future printed content was then included in Make magazine.
Make Television Show
Make television was a TV show produced by Twin Cities Public Television. John Edgar Park was the host. The show started in January 2009 on PBS stations. Ten episodes of the show were made. They featured different projects and helpful guides. The show also included videos made by viewers, which they sent in online.
Make Controller Kit
The Make Controller Kit was a special tool for hobbyists and professionals. It was an "open-source hardware" solution. This means its design was freely available for anyone to use and change. People used it to create interactive projects. It could connect with different computer programs. This allowed users to build things that reacted to their actions.
