Malacology facts for kids
Malacology is the study of molluscs. These amazing animals include creatures like snails, slugs, octopuses, squids, and bivalves. Bivalves are animals such as clams and mussels. Most molluscs have a hard shell that protects their soft bodies.
Many people enjoy collecting mollusc shells because they are often very beautiful and interesting. Also, many people, especially those who live near the ocean, eat molluscs as food.
Scientists who study molluscs are called malacologists. They work to identify and classify these animals. They also learn everything they can about how molluscs live, where they live, and what they do.
