Mallén is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the province of Zaragoza. This province is part of Aragon, a region in Spain. In 2018, about 3,083 people lived there.
Mallén is found in the valley of the Huecha River. This river flows into the larger Ebro River. The town is also close to a main road called N-232.
History of Mallén
Long ago, there was an ancient site near Mallén called Belsinon. This place was home to the Celtiberians, an ancient group of people who lived in Spain. Belsinon is located on a small hill known today as Cerro del Convento. It was once called Mania or Manlia.
Famous People from Mallén
A notable person from Mallén was Santos González Roncal. He was born in Mallén in 1873. Santos González Roncal was a soldier who served in the Philippines. He was part of a group known as the "Últimos de Filipinas" (Last Ones of the Philippines).
Local Traditions
Mallén has an interesting local tradition about its musicians. It is said that the musicians of Mallén did not know how to play their instruments while walking in a parade. So, they used a horse cart to sit on and play their music.
This story led to some funny sayings, called aphorisms, in the towns nearby. These sayings often poke fun at the musicians of Mallén.
