Malta is a small, unincorporated community in Bowie County, Texas, United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own city government or mayor. It's part of the larger Texarkana metropolitan area. In 1990, about 297 people lived there.

History of Malta, Texas
Malta was named by an early settler, Lynn Tucker. He named it after the city of Malta, Illinois.
Early Days and Growth
A post office opened in Malta in 1896. Jeff D. Norman was the first postmaster. The post office stayed open until the 1950s.
At the start of the 1900s, about 243 people lived in Malta. This number stayed about the same for many years. However, the population started to get smaller in the 1940s.
Later Years and Population Changes
By 1985, Malta was very small. There were no businesses, and only about 85 people lived there. But just five years later, in 1990, the population grew to 297 people.

On April 30, 1954, a strong tornado hit Malta. It was an F3 tornado, which means it caused serious damage.

Malta is located in the northwestern part of Bowie County, Texas. It sits along the Missouri Pacific Railroad line. It is also on U.S. Highway 82.
