Malters is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the district of Lucerne. It is part of the canton of Lucerne in Switzerland.

History of Malters
Malters was first mentioned a very long time ago, in the second half of the 9th Century. Back then, it was known as in Maltrensi marcha. Later, in the year 1238, it was called villa Malters.
Geography of Malters
Malters covers an area of about 28.6 square kilometers (11 square miles). A large part of this land, about 64.7%, is used for farming. Forests cover 24.5% of the area.
About 9.5% of Malters is built up with buildings and roads. The remaining small part, 1.2%, includes natural features like rivers.
Malters is located about 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the city of Lucerne. It sits on both sides of the Kleine Emme river. The village of Malters is the main part of the municipality. Until 1845, the nearby town of Schwarzenberg was also part of Malters.
People and Population in Malters
Malters has a population of 7,410 people (as of 31 December 2020). In 2007, about 8.8% of the people living in Malters were from other countries. Over the past ten years, the population has grown by 3.4%.
Languages Spoken in Malters
Most people in Malters speak German, about 93.2% of the population. Albanian is the second most common language, spoken by 2.8% of residents. Serbo-Croatian is the third most common, spoken by 0.8%.

In the 2007 election, the most popular political party was the FDP. They received 30.9% of the votes. The next most popular parties were the CVP (27.4%), the SVP (24.3%), and the SPS (8%).
