Malvina is a small, unincorporated community located in Bolivar County, Mississippi, United States. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live together, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Malvina is about 3 miles (5 km) northwest of Symonds and 9 miles (14 km) east of Rosedale.

Discovering Malvina, Mississippi
Malvina has an interesting history that dates back to the late 1800s. It started as a busy place, especially for the logging industry.
How Malvina Started
The community was first established in 1887. It was originally called "Phalia". A man named Jett Dent founded the town and became its very first postmaster.
Jett Dent was an important person in early Phalia. He owned a logging company and a sawmill. He also had a special flat boat. He used this boat to travel on the waters of the Bogue Phalia, a stream that ran right through the community.
A Busy Logging Town
Phalia quickly became a busy logging town. The Bogue Phalia stream was very important for moving logs. Log rafts were floated down the stream to Pace, where they would be cut into lumber at mills.
In the late 1880s, the Louisville, New Orleans and Texas Railway built a train line. This line connected Rosedale and Boyle. A train station, platforms, a water tank, and a wood yard were built in Phalia. By 1900, the community had a store and two seed houses. Trains ran through Phalia twice every day, making it a lively place.
The Name Change
The name of the town changed in 1901. It was renamed Malvina. The new name honored a woman named Malvina Yeager Scott.
A post office served the community for many years. It operated under the name Phalia from 1887 to 1901. After the name change, it operated under the name Malvina from 1901 until 1956.
Roads and Bridges
In the early 1900s, a dirt road connected Rosedale to Merigold, passing through Malvina. In 1906, the local government started building gravel roads across the county. This helped people travel more easily.
A very unique structure was built in Malvina in the 1920s. It was a wooden three-way bridge. This special bridge crossed over where the Lane Bayou and Bogue Phalia streams met. It was one of only a few three-way bridges in the entire world! However, this historic bridge was taken down in 1972 and replaced with a modern bridge.
