Manafest's Music Journey
After a skateboarding accident in 1998, Christopher Greenwood started focusing on writing music. He first formed a hip-hop group called Under One King. Back then, he used his skater nickname, 'Speedy'. In 2000, he changed his stage name to Manafest and began making music on his own.
Early Albums and Awards
In 2001, Manafest released his first collection of songs, called Misled Youth. One of the songs, "Freedom," won "Modern Rock/Alternative Song of the Year" in 2002. The next year, he released his first full album, My Own Thing. This album caught the attention of Trevor McNevan from the band Thousand Foot Krutch. This led Manafest to sign with BEC Recordings, a big music label.
After joining BEC, he released his second album, Epiphany, in 2005. This album also received several awards and nominations. His third album, Glory, came out in 2006. It won "Rap/Hip Hop Album of the Year" in 2007 and was nominated for a Juno Award.
Growing Fame and New Sounds
In 2008, Manafest's fourth album, Citizens Activ, earned him many awards and nominations. This album also made him very popular in Japan.
His fifth album, The Chase, was released in 2010. The song "Avalanche" from this album became very popular, selling over 50,000 copies. This album also showed a change in Manafest's music style. He started moving from pure hip hop to a heavier rap rock sound.
In 2011, Manafest released his first live album, Live in Concert. It won "Rap/Hip Hop Album of the Year."
His sixth studio album, Fighter, came out in 2012. This album continued with the strong rock influence. Because of this album, Manafest's fans started calling themselves "Fighters."
In 2014, he released his seventh album, The Moment. This album had a different sound, mixing rap rock with more electronic hip hop.
Becoming Independent
Manafest started a special fundraising campaign in 2015 for his album Reborn. The album was released worldwide on October 2, 2015. This was an important step as he became an independent artist.
He continued to release new music through crowdfunding. In 2017, he released Stones. In 2018, he released Stones Reloaded, which was a remix album.
In 2019, Manafest announced a new fundraising campaign for his tenth album, This Is Not The End, which came out in December 2019. His eleventh album, I Run With Wolves, was released in 2022.
Musical Style
Manafest's music style has changed a lot over the years. He started with a classic hip hop sound for his first few albums. Then, he began to mix in alternative rock and rap rock elements. By the time The Chase was released, rock was a big part of his sound. Later, with The Moment in 2014, his style became a mix of rap rock and electronic hip-hop.
