Mangrove Creek is a small place located in the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia. It's like a neighborhood or small town, also called a suburb. You can find it about 14 kilometers (or about 9 miles) north of a town called Spencer. It sits along the Mangrove Creek waterway, which is a stream or small river.
This area is part of the Central Coast Council. This means it's managed by the local government, which helps with things like roads and parks in the area.
What's in a Name?
Mangrove Creek gets its name from the waterway it's built around. The name "Mangrove Creek" was first written down in 1829. A surveyor named William Romaine Govett (1807–1848) was exploring the area. A surveyor is someone who measures and maps land.
He noticed many mangrove trees growing there. Mangroves are special trees that grow in salty water, often along coastlines or rivers. Long ago, people would burn these mangrove trees. They used the ash (what's left after burning) to make soap. So, the creek and the area around it were named after these useful trees.
