Manitowish Waters is a town in Vilas County, Wisconsin, United States. In 2018, about 572 people lived here. The smaller community of Manitowish Waters is also part of this town.

History of Manitowish Waters
In 1934, a famous event happened at the Little Bohemia Lodge on Little Star Lake. Agents from the FBI were looking for the Dillinger Gang. During this time, a local worker was accidentally hurt by federal agents. Another agent was also hurt nearby. The Dillinger Gang members were able to get away.
The lodge, which was owned by Emil Wanatka, is still a restaurant today. You can still see marks on the building from the event. Some items left behind by the Dillinger Gang are on display. In 2008, the Little Bohemia Lodge was used to film parts of the movie Public Enemies. This movie was about John Dillinger and the FBI. Johnny Depp played John Dillinger in the film.
Some business owners, Richard and Elizabeth Uihlein, have invested a lot in Manitowish Waters. They own several businesses like a hotel, restaurants, and gift shops. They have put millions of dollars into the town. Some local residents wish they had more information about these projects.
Geography and Climate
Manitowish Waters covers about 36.4 square miles (94.4 km2). Most of this area, about 30.4 square miles (78.6 km2), is land. The rest, about 6.1 square miles (15.7 km2), is water.
Local Airport
The Manitowish Waters Airport (D25) serves the town. It is located just one mile south of the town. The airport is mainly used by small private planes and air taxis.

In 2000, there were 646 people living in Manitowish Waters. The average age of people in the town was 51 years old. Many people living alone were 65 or older.
Fun Things to Do
Manitowish Waters is famous for its beautiful chain of lakes. In the summer, many visitors come from all over the Midwest. They enjoy the lakes and the outdoors.
The town is also known for its many artists. You can find artist studios and gift shops in the town center. Another popular attraction is the Skiing Skeeters, a water ski team. They put on free shows twice a week during the summer.
Getting Around Town
The River's Edge BCycle station offers a bikeshare program. Since 2021, you can rent e-bikes to explore the town.
