Mannar District (Tamil: மன்னார் மாவட்டம் Maṉṉār Māvaṭṭam; Sinhala: මන්නාරම දිස්ත්රික්කය) is one of the 25 districts in Sri Lanka. Districts are like big areas that help manage the country. Mannar District is located in the north-west part of Sri Lanka. Its main town and capital is Mannar. The official languages spoken here are Tamil and Sinhala.

Geography of Mannar District
Mannar District is found in the north-western part of Sri Lanka. It is part of the Northern Province. The total area of the district is about 1,996 square kilometers (771 square miles). This area includes both land and water. About 1,880 square kilometers is land, and 116 square kilometers is water.
The district is known for its flat landscape. It also has a long coastline. This makes it a great place for fishing and for seeing different types of birds.
Divisions of Mannar
Mannar District is divided into smaller areas called Divisional Secretary's Divisions, or DS Divisions. These divisions help manage local services and communities. There are five main DS Divisions in Mannar District:

- Manthai West
- Musali
- Nanaddan
Population and People
According to the 2012 census, about 99,051 people live in Mannar District. This makes it one of the less populated districts in Sri Lanka. The people living here come from different backgrounds and cultures. They speak Tamil and Sinhala, which are the official languages.
Government and Administration
Mannar District is managed by a District Secretary. This person is in charge of making sure the district runs smoothly. They work with local leaders to provide services to the people. The district also has representatives in the national Parliament and the Northern Provincial Council. These representatives help make decisions for the district and the province.
Important Places and Landmarks
Mannar District has several interesting places to visit. One very important site is the Shrine of Our Lady of Madhu. It is a famous church that attracts many visitors. Another natural feature is Rama's Bridge, also known as Adam's Bridge. This is a chain of limestone shoals between Sri Lanka and India.
