About Manolo Escobar's Life
Manuel García Escobar was born on October 19, 1931. He was the fifth of ten children. His parents were Antonio García and María del Carmen Escobar.
Early Life and Music
When Manolo was young, his father, Antonio, changed careers. He stopped farming and started working in hospitality and culture. Antonio met a retired teacher who had lost his family. Antonio offered the teacher a place to live. In return, the teacher taught all of Antonio's children how to play music. Manolo started playing the flute and the piano when he was very young.
When he was 14, Manolo moved from Almería to Barcelona with his brothers. He worked different jobs to learn new skills. Manolo and his brothers Salvador and Baldomero formed a music group. Later, their brother Juan Gabriel joined the group when they became more successful. Juan Gabriel and their sister, Maria José, also wrote songs for the group.
Rise to Fame
In 1962, Manolo Escobar became very famous. This happened after he released Canciones del Maestro Solano. This was his first big performance in Madrid and Barcelona. He also starred in a movie called Los Guerrilleros, which was filmed in Arcos de la Frontera.
Even after 1965, when copla music became less popular, Manolo Escobar still sold many records. He was one of the few artists who had his own music company and his own show.
In the early 1990s, Manolo moved to a house in Benidorm. He named his house "Porompompero" after one of his famous songs. He acted in over 20 movies. He also recorded almost 80 music albums. Twenty-four of his albums sold so many copies that they became gold records. He also had a cassette that sold enough to be certified platinum. His album Y viva España was his biggest hit. It sold 6 million copies, and later, 10 million copies. It was the best-selling album in Spain from 1973 to 1992.

A few years later, they adopted a baby girl named Vanessa. She was only three days old when they adopted her. Manolo dedicated a song to her called "Mi pequeña flor" (My little flower).
