History of Mansfield
Mansfield became an official village around 1870. People aren't completely sure how it got its name! Some think it was named after John Mansfield, who was an officer during the Civil War.
Other ideas suggest it might have been named after different people named Mansfield. These include Jared Mansfield, an early American surveyor, or J.L. Mansfield, who was known for helping the local community. It's also possible the village was named after the city of Mansfield, Ohio, which was itself named after Jared Mansfield.
