Mansour Rahbani (born March 17, 1925 – died January 13, 2009) was a famous Lebanese artist. He was a talented composer, musician, poet, and producer. Mansour was well-known as one of the Rahbani brothers. His sister-in-law was the famous singer Fairuz.

The Rahbani Brothers

Mansour Rahbani worked closely with his brother, Assi Rahbani. Together, they created a unique style of music and theatre. They started sharing their new artistic ideas on Lebanese Radio in 1945. Their music was different from the traditional songs popular at the time.

The brothers also worked at the Near East Radio station. There, they created many songs and a series of short plays. In 1955, Assi married Nouhad Haddad, who became known as Fairuz. The three of them formed a new group. Mansour and Assi wrote poems and songs, and Fairuz sang them beautifully.

Mansour's Poetry

Mansour Rahbani was also a poet. He wrote four collections of poems, called Diwans. These collections showed his deep thoughts and feelings.

His poetry collections include:

  • Al-Quṣur Al-Mai'yyah (The Aquatic Castles)
  • Osafer Waḥde Malekan (Traveling Alone as a King)
  • Ana Al-Ġareeb Al-Aḫar (I am the Other Stranger)
  • Baḥar Al-shete (The Winter's Sailor)

Rahbani Theatre and Films

The Rahbani brothers created a special kind of musical theatre. It was different from traditional operas. Their plays focused on important ideas like dignity, truth, and grace. They often explored big topics like God, human beings, and the land.

The Rahbani Brothers also made music for movies. They composed the music for three well-known films:

  • Biyaa el Khawatem (The Ring Seller)
  • Safar Barlek (Exile)
  • Bent el Hares (The Guardian’s Daughter)

Later Life and Death

Mansour Rahbani became ill with a severe case of pneumonia. He was admitted to a hospital in Beirut, Lebanon. After three days in intensive care, he passed away on January 13, 2009. He was 83 years old.
