Manuel Piñero Sánchez (born 1 September 1952) is a Spanish professional golfer. He is known for his successful career on the European Tour.

Early Life

Manuel Piñero was born in Badajoz, a city in Spain.

A Career in Golf

Manuel Piñero became a professional golfer in 1968. In the early 1970s, he became a well-known player on the European Tour. He won nine big tournaments on this tour. His most important win was the 1977 British PGA Championship.

Piñero often finished in the top ten players on the European Tour's "Order of Merit." This list ranks golfers based on how much money they win. He was in the top ten five times, even placing fourth in 1976 and 1977.

He was also part of Spain's team in the World Cup of Golf nine times. His team won the title twice, in 1976 and 1982. In 1982, he also won the individual title, meaning he was the best player in the tournament.

Ryder Cup Hero

Piñero played for Europe in two Ryder Cup tournaments. The Ryder Cup is a famous golf competition between teams from Europe and the United States.

  • In 1981, he won his singles match against American golfer Jerry Pate.
  • In 1985, he was a key player, earning four points for his team. This helped Europe win the trophy against the United States for the first time since 1957. He won his singles match against Lanny Wadkins during this event.

Later Career

After turning 50 in 2002, Piñero started playing on the European Seniors Tour. This tour is for older professional golfers.
