Manuele Blasi's Club Journey
Manuele Blasi started his professional football career as a central midfielder. He made his first appearance in Italy's top league, Serie A, for AS Roma. This happened on January 22, 2000, in a match against Piacenza. Before joining Roma, he also played for Lecce in Serie B, which is Italy's second-highest football league.
In mid-2000, Blasi moved to Perugia. He played 46 matches in Serie A for Perugia. After his time there, he was signed by Juventus in July 2002. For his first season with Juventus, he was loaned back to Perugia. The next season, he joined Parma on loan.
Playing for Juventus
Blasi returned to Juventus FC in 2004. His coach at Juventus was Fabio Capello, who had also coached him at Roma. In his first season with Juventus (2004–05), he often played in the middle of the field. He helped Juventus win the league title that season.
In the next season (2005–06), Blasi sometimes played as a right-back. This was because some teammates were injured. Even though he didn't play as much, he signed a new contract with Juventus. The team won another league title that season. However, Juventus was later moved to a lower league, Serie B, and lost those two league titles. This happened because of a big football investigation in Italy.
After this, Blasi joined Fiorentina on loan in 2006. His coach there was Cesare Prandelli, who had also coached him at Parma.
Time at Napoli
In the summer of 2007, Blasi moved to Napoli. Napoli had just been promoted to Serie A. He joined with his former Juventus teammate Marcelo Zalayeta. Blasi signed a five-year contract with Napoli. In June 2008, Napoli fully bought his player rights from Juventus.
On August 31, 2009, Blasi was loaned to Palermo. He had played one match for Napoli that season before moving. In May 2010, he also joined AC Milan for a short time to play in friendly matches in the United States.
Later Club Teams
On January 27, 2012, Blasi signed with Lecce again, which was a Serie A team at the time. Later that year, on August 7, 2012, he joined Pescara, another team that had just been promoted to Serie A. He signed a one-year deal with them.
In 2013, Blasi joined Varese. He played for two seasons there before his contract ended in 2015. After that, Blasi moved to India to play for the club Chennaiyin FC in 2015. He stayed with them in 2016, after a short loan spell at Ischia Isolaverde.
Playing for Italy
Manuele Blasi played for several Italian national youth teams. He played for the Italy U-15 team and the Italy U-16 team. He also played for the Italy U-18 team in a European Championship final, where they lost to Portugal. He was part of the Italy U-20 team and the Italy U-21 team. With the U-21 team, he helped them reach the semi-finals of the 2002 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.
Blasi also played for the main Italy senior national team. He made his first appearance for Italy on August 18, 2004, when he was 24 years old. This was in a friendly match against Iceland. He played a total of eight matches for Italy between 2004 and 2005.
Manuele Blasi's Playing Style
Manuele Blasi was known as a strong and energetic box-to-box midfielder. This means he was good at both defending and attacking. He had a lot of energy and could run all over the field. He was also good at winning the ball from opponents and had a powerful shot from far away.
Blasi was a very flexible player. He could play in different midfield roles, like a right-sided midfielder or a defensive midfielder. As a defensive midfielder, his main job was to stop the other team's attacks and pass the ball to his teammates. He was also known for being a leader and having good team spirit. Sometimes, he would make too many fouls, which led to him getting yellow cards. Besides midfield, he sometimes played as a right-back (a defender on the right side). He could also play as a deep-lying playmaker, which means he would stay in front of the defenders and help start attacks with his good passing.
Coaching Career
After his playing career, Manuele Blasi became a coach. On January 12, 2017, he joined an Italian amateur club called CPC 2005 Civitavecchia. In September 2017, he became the manager of that same club.
On May 23, 2019, Blasi was named the manager of Hamrun Spartans, a club in Malta. This was his first professional coaching job. He led the team to the quarter-finals of the Maltese FA Trophy. However, he was no longer the coach in February 2020. Since then, he has coached other clubs like Ayia Napa, Apolonia Fier, and Enosis Neon Paralimni.
