Mapleton's Story
Mapleton started out with a different name: Eldora. It was founded in 1857. That same year, a post office opened, but it was called Mapleton.
In 1858, the very first store in Mapleton opened its doors. A few years later, in 1861, the town's name was officially changed to Mapleton. This new name matched the post office. The town was named Mapleton because there were many maple trees growing nearby.
