Marília Soares Pêra (born January 22, 1943 – died December 5, 2015) was a famous Brazilian actress, singer, and stage director. She was known as one of the best actresses of her time.
Marília Pêra won many awards for her acting. In 1982, she received the National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Actress for her role in the movie Pixote. She also won Best Actress awards at the Gramado Film Festival and the Cartagena Film Festival for her work in Better Days Ahead. Some of her other well-known movies include Bar Esperança, Angels of the Night, and Tieta do Agreste.

Early Life and Career Beginnings
Marília Soares Pêra was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on January 22, 1943. Her family was involved in theater, which helped her start acting very young.
When she was a child, her father, Manuel Pêra, encouraged her to dance. She studied classical ballet and appeared on television shows. From age 14 to 21, Marília worked as a dancer in musicals. She even played the famous singer Carmen Miranda in a show called O Teu Cabelo Não Nega.
In 1961, at 18, she traveled around Brazil and Portugal with a play. The next year, she starred in the musical Como Vencer na Vida sem Fazer Força alongside famous actors like Procópio Ferreira.
Television Career
Marília Pêra began her television career in 1965. She was one of the first actors hired by the new TV channel Rede Globo. She starred in early soap operas like Rosinha do Sobrado and Padre Tião.
Later, she joined the cast of Beto Rockfeller (1968) on TV Tupi. This soap opera was very important for Brazilian television because of its modern style. She also played a taxi driver named Noeli in Bandeira 2 and the main character in Supermanoela (1974).
In 1982, Marília played Alice in the miniseries Quem Ama não Mata. Her performance was very powerful and made a big impact. After some time away, she returned to TV Globo in 1987 for the soap opera Brega & Chique. She also played the villain Juliana in the miniseries O Primo Basílio (1988), which was another memorable role.
Marília continued to work in many popular TV shows. She appeared in Lua Cheia de Amor (1991) and Meu Bem Querer (1998). Her last TV show was Pé na Cova, which aired from 2013.
Film Career
Marília Pêra became famous around the world for her role as Sueli in the movie Pixote: A Lei do Mais Fraco (1980). For this film, she won the National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Actress in 1982. She was the first actress from South America to receive this honor in North America.
Another important movie for her was Bar Esperança (1983), where she gave a funny performance. She also appeared in Central do Brasil (1998) and Jogo de Cena (2007). Her last movie was Polaroides Urbanas in 2008.

Death
Marília Pêra passed away at her home in Rio de Janeiro on December 5, 2015. She was 72 years old and had been battling lung cancer.
