Mar del Tuyú is a fun resort town located on the Atlantic Coast of Argentina. It's also the main town, or administrative seat, of the La Costa Partido area. You can easily reach it by Provincial Route 11.

About Mar del Tuyú

In 2001, official numbers showed that about 6,916 people lived in Mar del Tuyú. This number included the nearby area of Costa del Este.

Mar del Tuyú is part of a bigger area that includes Santa Teresita. Together, these towns had about 19,950 residents in 2001.

The town was started in 1945 by a person named Arturo D'Elías. Later, in 1978, Mar del Tuyú was chosen as the main town for the La Costa District. This decision helped avoid arguments between the larger towns of San Clemente del Tuyú (in the north) and Mar de Ajó (in the south).

Cool Features of Mar del Tuyú

Mar del Tuyú has some unique features that make it special:

The Ovals

Unlike most towns with only square blocks, Mar del Tuyú has special oval-shaped areas. These ovals break up the usual street pattern. You can find beautiful buildings, shopping areas, and the Municipal Palace (the town hall) in these unique spaces. The Municipal Palace used to be a big hotel called Gran Hotel Tuyú.

Fishing Dock

The town has a long fishing dock, about 100 meters (328 feet) long and 4 meters (13 feet) wide. At the end, there's a wider spot, 10 by 20 meters (33 by 66 feet), perfect for fishing. The dock is made of wood and can float between 4 to 6 meters (13 to 20 feet) high, depending on the water. It has lights, small cabins you can rent, and public bathrooms.

Lighthouse

There's a lighthouse in Mar del Tuyú that stands 25 meters (82 feet) tall. Its light can shine up to 36 kilometers (22 miles) away! This lighthouse is very important for boats sailing along the coast, especially for fishing boats, helping them find their way safely.
