In 1989, Marc Brown returned to Los Angeles. He began working at KABC-TV as a reporter. Over time, he took on more important roles. He became a weekend anchor, presenting the news on Saturdays and Sundays.

By 1996, he was anchoring the weekday 6 p.m. newscast. The next year, he also started anchoring the 4 p.m. newscast. In 2000, he became the anchor for the weeknight 11 p.m. newscast. This was a big achievement. He was the second African-American person to be the main anchor of an 11 p.m. weeknight newscast in Los Angeles.

In August 2007, Marc Brown and his co-anchor, Michelle Tuzee, moved to the 5 p.m. newscast. They also continued to anchor the 11 p.m. program.
