Marc LaBelle's Hockey Journey
Starting Out in Hockey
Marc LaBelle was not chosen by any team in the NHL draft. This means he was "undrafted." Even so, he signed with the Montreal Canadiens in 1991 as a free agent. A free agent is a player who can sign with any team. He played in the minor leagues for them.
The next year, he signed with the Ottawa Senators. Again, he played only in the minor leagues. In 1993, the Florida Panthers picked him in the 1993 NHL Expansion Draft. This draft happens when new teams join the league. Marc spent three seasons in the International Hockey League (IHL). He played for the Cincinnati Cyclones and the Milwaukee Admirals. However, he never played a game for the Panthers.
Playing in the NHL and Beyond
In 1996, Marc signed with the Dallas Stars. He played nine regular season games for them during the 1996–97 season. During these games, he did not score any points. He did get 46 penalty minutes.
After his time with the Stars, he continued to play in the IHL. He played for the Admirals, Cyclones, and the Michigan K-Wings. He also played one game in the Quebec Semi-Pro Hockey League for the Lachute Rapids.
Coaching and Retirement
Later, Marc LaBelle joined the El Paso Buzzards as both a player and an assistant coach. He played for two seasons with this team. During a game against the New Mexico Scorpions, he hurt his hand. This injury eventually led him to retire from playing hockey.
He did come out of retirement briefly. In the 2006–07 ECHL season, he played one more game for the Cincinnati Cyclones.
