Marc LaBelle's Hockey Journey
Marc LaBelle was not chosen in the NHL draft. This is called being "undrafted." But he still got a chance to play! The Montreal Canadiens signed him in 1991. He played for their minor league teams.
Later, he signed with the Ottawa Senators. Again, he played in their minor league system. In 1993, the Florida Panthers picked him in a special draft for new teams. This is called an NHL Expansion Draft. He played for teams like the Cincinnati Cyclones and the Milwaukee Admirals in the IHL. But he never played a game for the Panthers themselves.
In 1996, Marc signed with the Dallas Stars. This was his big chance! He played nine games in the NHL during the 1996–97 season. He didn't score any points but had 46 penalty minutes. He also continued to play in the IHL for the Admirals, Cyclones, and Michigan K-Wings.
Marc also played one game in the Quebec Semi-Pro Hockey League for the Lachute Rapids. Later, he joined the El Paso Buzzards as both a player and an assistant coach. He played for two seasons with the Buzzards. During a game, he hurt his hand, which eventually led him to stop playing hockey. He did play one more game for the Cincinnati Cyclones in the 2006–07 ECHL season before fully retiring.
