Marc Vidal's Culinary Journey
Marc Vidal grew up in Barcelona, where his family owned a restaurant. This is where he first learned about cooking. He decided to make cooking his career.
In 1996, he went to a special cooking school in Barcelona. It was called Escola de Restauracio i Hostelatge de Barcelona. He studied hard and earned two degrees there.
Learning from Top Chefs
After finishing school, Marc got an internship at Can Gaig. This was a very famous restaurant with a Michelin star. A Michelin star means a restaurant is known for its amazing food.
He then spent a year working in Paris, France. After that, he went back to Barcelona. He worked as a pastry chef at the Windsor restaurant, making delicious desserts.
Marc also had the chance to work at some of the world's most famous restaurants. These included elBulli, L'Arpège, and restaurant Alain Ducasse. He learned from amazing chefs like Alain Passard, Alain Ducasse, and Ferran Adria. These experiences helped him become a very skilled chef.
Moving to the United States
In 2002, Marc returned to Barcelona. He worked at a restaurant called Ot. Two years later, he became the main chef at Visual. This restaurant was inside the Torre Catalunya hotel.
Marc then moved to the United States. In December 2006, he opened his own restaurant called Por Fin. It was located in Coral Gables, Florida. In 2009, he became the executive chef at Solea. This restaurant was in the W Hotel in South Beach.
Boqueria Restaurants
In September 2010, Marc Vidal became the executive chef for Boqueria. This is a popular tapas restaurant chain. Tapas are small Spanish dishes, perfect for sharing.
Marc took over from another chef at Boqueria's locations in New York City. These were in the Flatiron and SoHo neighborhoods. In March 2012, Marc helped open a third Boqueria restaurant. This new location was in Washington, D.C., on Dupont Circle.
The name "Boqueria" comes from a famous food market in Barcelona. It is called Mercat de la Boqueria. This market is a very popular place to find fresh food in Marc's home city.
