Marcelo Fabián Sosa Farías, born on June 2, 1978, is a retired football player from Uruguay. He was known as a defensive midfielder, which means he played in the middle of the field to help protect his team's goal. People often called him "Pato," which is Spanish for "duck." Marcelo Sosa played for many different clubs in five countries during his professional career.

Marcelo Sosa's Club Career
Marcelo Sosa started his football journey in Montevideo, Uruguay. His first professional club was Danubio FC, where he played for many seasons, becoming a very important player for the team.
Playing in Russia and Spain
In 2004, Marcelo Sosa moved to Russia to play for FC Spartak Moscow. He signed a four-year contract there. However, after only six months, he moved to Spain and joined Atlético Madrid. He signed a three-year deal with this big club in La Liga, which is Spain's top football league.
During the 2004–05 season, Sosa played in 28 league games for Atlético Madrid. Even though he played many matches, the club decided to loan him out. He went to another Spanish team, CA Osasuna. He didn't play much for Osasuna during their successful 2005–06 season. He also played in two matches in the UEFA Cup (now called the Europa League).
Returning to South America
After his time in Spain, Marcelo Sosa was loaned to Club Atlético River Plate in Argentina in 2007. Later that year, he returned to his home country, Uruguay. He joined Club Nacional de Football on a free transfer, even though he still had a contract with Atlético Madrid.
In 2008, Sosa moved to Mexico to play for Tecos UAG. He spent a couple of seasons there before returning to Uruguay in 2009. He signed with a very famous Uruguayan club, C.A. Peñarol. In 2011, he joined another team in the Uruguayan top league, Racing Club de Montevideo, on a six-month contract. He later returned to his first club, Danubio, before retiring.
Marcelo Sosa's International Career
Marcelo Sosa also played for his country, Uruguay. He first joined the national team in 2003. He represented Uruguay in the 2004 Copa América, which is a major football tournament for South American countries. He played in every match for Uruguay in that tournament, helping his team finish in third place.
