Marcia Lane Foster (born Nellie Marcia Lane Foster) was a talented British artist. She lived from 1897 to 1983. Marcia was well-known for making prints, painting portraits, and drawing pictures for books. She later became Marcia Jarrett after getting married.

About Marcia Lane Foster
Early Life and Art School
Marcia Lane Foster was born in Seaton, Devon, England. She grew up in Manchester before moving to London. In London, she went to several art schools. These included the St John's Wood School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools. She also studied at the Central School of Arts and Crafts. There, she learned printmaking from a teacher named Noel Rooke. In 1921, she won a silver medal for her figure painting at the Central School.
Art Career and Illustrations
After finishing her studies, Marcia became a professional artist. She painted portraits of people. She also illustrated many books. On top of that, she created drawings for advertisements. For nearly 20 years, she designed promotional materials for a company called William Hollins & Co. This included their famous brands like Viyella and Clydella.
Marcia also made illustrations for other big companies. These included Cadbury, Nestlé, Clarks Shoes, and Kodak. Throughout her career, she illustrated dozens of books.
Famous Works and Exhibitions
Some of Marcia's wood engravings are very special. She created 16 of them for a 1923 book called The Merrie Tales of Jacques Tournebroche. The British Museum in London now owns these prints. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has her prints for Canadian Fairy Tales from 1922.
Marcia showed her paintings and drawings in many art shows. She exhibited at the Royal Academy in London from 1952 to 1964. She also showed her work with the Society of Women Artists from 1923 to 1935. Other places she exhibited include the New English Art Club and the Art Institute of Chicago. She even showed her art at the Paris Salon.
Marcia was a member of the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society. She was also an associate member of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers. In 1925, she married Howard Dudley Jarrett, who was also an artist and writer. Marcia Lane Foster passed away in 1983 in Wincanton, Somerset.
