Marco Aurelio Denegri Santa Gadea (born May 16, 1938 – died July 27, 2018) was a famous Peruvian intellectual. He was known for being a literary critic and a television presenter. He shared his knowledge on many topics, from books to music, through his TV shows and writings.

Early Life and Education
Marco Aurelio Denegri was born in Lima, Peru. His father was Julio Ernesto Denegri Cornejo, and his mother was Leonor Santa Gadea Arana. His grandfather was also a famous person named Marco Aurelio Denegri Valega.
He went to a school called Colegio San Andrés, which used to be known as Colegio Anglo-Peruano. After that, he studied law at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. Even though he went to several universities, he often said he was a "self-taught polymath." This means he learned a lot of different subjects by himself, rather than only in school.
Career in Media
Marco Aurelio Denegri started his career on Peruvian television in 1973. He became well-known for his deep knowledge and unique way of talking about culture.
Television Programs
From 1997 to 2000, he hosted a show called A solas con Marco Aurelio Denegri on Cable Magico Cultural. In 2000, he moved to TV Peru. There, he hosted another popular TV program called La función de la palabra.
On this show, he talked about many different cultural topics. He discussed everything from music to the beauty of human hands. He even thought of his show as "counter-cultural," meaning it offered ideas that were different from mainstream views.
Writing for Newspapers
Besides his television work, Marco Aurelio Denegri also wrote many articles for Peruvian newspapers. Some of these articles were later collected and published in a book called "De esto y de aquello" by Ricardo Palma University. He also wrote a weekly column for a major newspaper, El Comercio.
Personal Interests
Denegri was a very private person. He never married and preferred to keep his personal life to himself. In his later years, he became quite isolated. His main connection to the outside world was through his assistant, Rosa Torres. People who wanted to talk to him would first contact her.
He loved music very much and was an audiophile. This means he enjoyed listening to music with very high-quality sound equipment. He also had a special love for the Peruvian cajón, which is a box-shaped drum. He even created the term cajonística to describe the art of playing the Afro-Peruvian cajón.
Death
Marco Aurelio Denegri passed away on July 27, 2018. He died because of a lung condition called pulmonary emphysema.
