Early Life and High School Football
Marcus Harris grew up playing football in Kirkwood, Missouri. In high school, he was a talented quarterback for Kirkwood High School. During his senior year, he passed for 1,800 yards and ran for 450 yards. He was so good that he earned second-team all-state honors. Marcus also helped his team reach the state championship game. He was named first-team all-conference in both his junior and senior years.
College Football Career
From 2007 to 2010, Marcus played college football for the Murray State Racers. He was a very successful wide receiver there. By the end of his college career, he had caught 217 passes. He gained 2,479 receiving yards and scored 21 touchdowns.
Professional Football Journey
Marcus Harris started his professional career after the 2011 NFL draft. He was not chosen in the draft but was signed by the Detroit Lions on July 28, 2011. He was later released by the Lions but then signed to their practice squad in November 2011. A practice squad is a group of players who train with the team but are not on the main roster.
In 2012, Marcus signed with the Tennessee Titans in August but was released later that month. He then played for the Omaha Nighthawks in the United Football League during the 2012 season.
Arena Football League Success
On February 27, 2013, Harris signed with the Iowa Barnstormers in the Arena Football League. This was a very successful time for him. During the 2013 Arena Football League season, he caught 94 passes. He gained 1,223 receiving yards and scored 19 touchdowns.
Time with the New York Giants
Marcus signed with the New York Giants on August 12, 2013. He was released by the Giants later that month but was quickly re-signed to their practice squad. He moved on and off the practice squad a few times. In 2014, he was placed on injured reserve, which means he couldn't play due to an injury. He was released by the Giants in July 2015 and again placed on injured reserve. He became a free agent in March 2016.
