About Marcus Scribner
Marcus Scribner was born and grew up in Los Angeles, California. His name, like his father Troy and sister Athena, comes from old Roman and Greek stories. He even has a dog named Zeus!
Just like his character on Black-ish, Marcus has a Black father and a biracial mother (who is African American and white). His father's family is from Los Angeles, and his mom's grandmother is from England.
Starting Acting Young
Marcus began acting classes when he was seven years old. He was quite shy back then and didn't have many hobbies. But he quickly fell in love with acting. He took acting classes every weekend.
Even though he enjoys sports like basketball and lacrosse, Marcus once said he was afraid of getting hurt. When he was in kindergarten, he hit his head playing basketball and needed stitches. He also started playing the clarinet in fifth grade.
Marcus began public high school in 2014. But by 2015, he started being homeschooled. This helped him manage his busy acting schedule.
Marcus's Acting Career
When Marcus was 10, he got his first small role on the TV show Castle. After that, he appeared in episodes of New Girl, Wedding Band, and Wendell & Vinnie.
Starring in Black-ish
At 14, Marcus got his biggest role yet. He was cast as Andre Johnson Jr. in the ABC sitcom Black-ish. He worked alongside famous actors like Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross. Marcus was 13 when he first tried out for the show and 14 when they filmed the first episode. He felt a strong connection to the show's story.
For his role as Junior in the first season of Black-ish, Marcus was nominated for an NAACP Image Award. This award celebrates great achievements by people of color in entertainment.
Voice Acting and Other Roles
In 2015, Marcus voiced the character Buck in the Pixar animated movie The Good Dinosaur. He also voiced Smudge in the Netflix animated series Home: Adventures with Tip & Oh starting in 2016. That same summer, Marcus worked on an independent comedy movie called Alexander IRL.
Marcus became even more important in the Black-ish story during its fourth season. This was because the spin-off show Grown-ish was starting. In 2018, it was announced that Marcus would also star in a thriller movie called "Confessional."
Marcus is also well-known for voicing Bow in the animated Netflix series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. Bow is a skilled archer and a best friend to the characters Glimmer and She-Ra.
In March 2022, it was announced that Marcus would move to Grown-ish as the main character. He took over the lead role and became the narrator for the fifth season, after Black-ish ended its eight-season run.
