The movie features the voices of Raymond Ochoa, Jack Bright, Sam Elliott, Anna Paquin, A.J. Buckley, Steve Zahn, Jeffrey Wright, and Frances McDormand. Bob Peterson first came up with the idea and directed the film until 2013. Then, Peter Sohn took over as director in 2014.

The movie first showed in Paris on November 10, 2015. It was released in the United States on November 25, 2015. The film earned $332 million worldwide, but it cost $175 million to make. It didn't make as much money as expected.
Story of Arlo's Adventure
In this special story, the asteroid that was supposed to make dinosaurs disappear 65 million years ago just flew past Earth. So, dinosaurs kept living!
Millions of years later, we meet a family of Apatosaurus who are corn farmers. The parents, Henry and Ida, have three children: Libby, Buck, and the smallest one, Arlo. Arlo finds farm life very hard. His older brother and sister are good at their chores and get to "make their mark" (a mud print) on the family's corn silo. But Arlo is too shy and scared, which makes his tasks difficult.
His dad, Henry, tries to help Arlo feel important. He puts Arlo in charge of guarding their food silo and helps him set a trap. The trap catches a human boy, but Arlo can't bring himself to hurt him, so he lets him go. Henry is disappointed and takes Arlo to find the boy. They end up in a deep valley. Henry saves Arlo from a sudden, strong flood, but then Henry is swept away and dies.
Without his father, Arlo has to do more work. He sees the same human boy inside the silo. Blaming the boy for his father's death, Arlo chases him. Both of them fall into a river. Arlo can't swim and is carried far downstream. He hits his head on a rock and passes out.
When Arlo wakes up, he is far from home. His leg is stuck under a big rock. The next day, he wakes to find his leg free. The human boy appears with food for him. The boy then leads Arlo to a berry tree. There, the boy bravely fights off a big snake. Arlo is amazed. An unusual Styracosaurus nearby sees this and wants to keep the boy. He makes Arlo compete to give the boy a name. Arlo finally wins when he calls him "Spot."
Arlo and Spot become friends. Arlo talks about missing his family. Spot shows that his own parents are gone too. Later, a storm hits, and Arlo runs away in fear. He loses the river he was following to get home.
The next morning, Arlo wakes up with Spot by his side. A group of pterodactyls, led by Thunderclap, spot them. They pretend to be rescuers but are actually mean and hungry. When the pterodactyls try to take Spot, Arlo and Spot run away. They find two Tyrannosaurus named Nash and Ramsey. These dinosaurs scare off the pterodactyls.
Nash, Ramsey, and their father, Butch, have lost their herd of longhorns. Arlo offers Spot's help to sniff them out. They find the herd, but Butch realizes dinosaur cattle thieves are involved. He uses Arlo as bait. Arlo and Spot get the attention of four Velociraptor thieves. This allows Butch and his family to attack. During the fight, Arlo finds his bravery. He fights off two raptors that were attacking Butch. This helps turn the fight in their favor. Butch defeats the two raptors that attacked him, while the others run away.
Arlo has earned their respect. He joins the Tyrannosaurus in moving the cattle south. He then sees the familiar mountain peaks of his home in the distance. Arlo and Spot leave to go home. On their way, they see a wild human in the distance. Spot is interested, but Arlo tells him they must keep going.
As another storm comes, Thunderclap and the pterodactyls return. They attack and carry Spot away. Arlo gets tangled in vines. He has a dream of his dad, Henry, leading him home. But Arlo decides he must save Spot instead. This makes the dream of his father proud before it disappears. Arlo finds and attacks the pterodactyls, who have trapped Spot by the river. Arlo and Spot push Thunderclap and the pterodactyls into the water. They are swept away helplessly.
Another sudden flood happens. Arlo jumps into the water to save Spot as they are swept toward a waterfall. Arlo protects Spot as they fall down the waterfall. He then carries Spot safely to the shore.
As they get close to Arlo's home, they hear the unknown human call again. An entire human family comes closer. With a heavy heart, Arlo encourages Spot to join his new family. They share a sad goodbye.
Arlo finally arrives home to his mother and siblings. He proudly makes his mark on the silo, right between those of his mother and father.
