Margaret Buckner Young (born March 29, 1921 – died December 5, 2009) was an American teacher and writer. She worked to improve education and promote fairness for all people.

Margaret Buckner was born in Campbellsville, Kentucky. Her parents were Eva Carter and Frank Buckner. She went to school in Aurora, Illinois and then studied at Kentucky State Industrial College. There, she earned a degree in English and French. In 1944, she married Whitney M. Young, Jr.. Margaret continued her studies, earning a master's degree in educational psychology from the University of Minnesota.

In 1953, Margaret and Whitney moved to Atlanta. Margaret taught educational psychology at Spelman College. In 1961, they moved to New Rochelle, New York. Here, she mostly focused on raising their two daughters. This was also when she started her career as a writer.

After her husband passed away in 1971, Margaret Young became very active. She worked to help achieve racial equality and improve relationships between the United States and other countries. These countries included Nigeria, Yugoslavia, and China. She also worked hard to keep her husband's important work alive through the Whitney M. Young, Jr. Memorial Foundation and the National Urban League. In 1973, she was part of the United States team at the United Nations General Assembly.

Margaret Young moved to Denver, Colorado in 1990. She passed away there at the age of 88 due to cancer. She had two daughters. Marcia Young Cantarella, PhD, worked as a dean at colleges like NYU and Princeton. She also wrote a book called I CAN Finish College. Her other daughter, Lauren Young Casteel, became the first Black woman to lead a foundation in Colorado. Margaret also had several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including businessman Mark Boles and artist Jordan Casteel.
