Margaret Colin (born May 26, 1958) is an American actress. She is famous for her roles in movies like Independence Day. She also played Margo Hughes on the TV show As the World Turns and Eleanor Waldorf-Rose on Gossip Girl.

Early Life and Education
Margaret Colin was born in Brooklyn, New York City. She grew up in Baldwin, New York, which is on Long Island. Her family is of Irish descent, and she was raised Catholic.
She finished high school at Baldwin Senior High School in 1976. After that, she went to Hofstra University.
Acting Career
Margaret Colin started her acting journey in a TV show called The Edge of Night. It was a soap opera, which is a TV drama with many ongoing stories. She played a rich character who survived many dangers.
After that, she joined As the World Turns. She played Margo Montgomery for several years. This character was part of the show for almost 30 years!
TV Shows and Movies
Colin has appeared in many popular TV shows. These include Foley Square and Leg Work. She also had a role in early episodes of Chicago Hope. In 1999, she played Lisa Wiseman in the series Now and Again.
From 2007 to 2012, Colin had a special role on the teen drama Gossip Girl. She played Eleanor Waldorf, who was the mother of one of the main characters, Blair Waldorf.
Margaret Colin has also been in many movies. Some of her well-known films include Something Wild (1986) and Three Men and a Baby (1987). She was also in Independence Day (1996) and The Devil's Own (1997). Later, she appeared in Unfaithful (2002) and First Daughter (2004).
She also performed on stage in a play called Jackie: An American Life. In this play, she acted as Jacqueline Kennedy.
In 2017, Colin joined the HBO comedy series Veep. She played Jane McCabe, a news anchor. For her work on Veep, she and her castmates won an award called the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. She returned to the show in 2019 for its final season.
In 2018, Colin performed on Broadway in the musical Carousel.
Personal Life
Margaret Colin met her husband, actor Justin Deas, while they were working on As the World Turns. They got married in January 1988.
Margaret and Justin have two sons named Sam and Joe. Margaret is also a stepmother to Justin's daughter from his first marriage. In the late 1990s, their family moved to Upper Montclair, New Jersey.
