Margaret Dorothy Shelton (1915–1984) was a talented Canadian artist. She spent almost her entire life in Alberta, Canada. Margaret worked with many different art materials, but she is most famous for her unique block prints.

Early Life and Education
Margaret Shelton was born on August 15, 1915, in a place called Bruce, Alberta. When she was a young adult, she went to a special school in Calgary from 1933 to 1934. This school, called the Normal School, helped her become a teacher. She taught for a short time after that.
Margaret loved art and continued to learn. She took night and summer art classes at the Provincial Institute of Technology and Art (PITA) from 1934 to 1943. In 1938, she earned an advanced art degree, called an MFA, from the Banff School of Fine Arts.
Her Art and Groups
Margaret Shelton was a very active artist. She joined several important groups for artists. These included the Alberta Society of Artists and the Calgary Sketch Club. She was also part of the Canadian Society of Graphic Art and the Society of Canadian Painter-Etchers and Engravers. Being a member of these groups helped her connect with other artists and share her work.
Showing Her Work
Margaret's art was shown in big exhibitions, which are like special art shows. One major show was at the Burnaby Art Gallery in British Columbia in 1981. After she passed away, another important exhibition of her work was held at the Glenbow Museum in Calgary in 1985.
In 2012, Margaret Shelton's art was featured in a show called Alberta Mistresses of the Modern: 1935-1975. This exhibition was held at the Art Gallery of Alberta. Margaret Shelton passed away in Calgary in 1984.
