Maria Dolores Malumbres Carranza (born April 11, 1931, died January 5, 2019) was a talented Spanish musician. She was a pianist, a music teacher, and a composer who wrote her own music.
Her Life Story
Maria Dolores Malumbres was born in Alfaro, a town in La Rioja, Spain. She started learning music from her father, Jose Luis Malumbres, who was a violinist. Later, in 1948, she continued her studies in Cordoba.
She went on to study at famous music schools. These included the Madrid Royal Conservatory of Music, where she learned from Fernando Remacha. She also studied at the Zaragoza Conservatory of Music.
After finishing her studies, Maria Dolores began her career. She directed choirs and taught music to students privately. From 1984 to 1987, she taught important subjects like harmony and music analysis at the Music Conservatory of Logroño. She started writing her own music in 1953. The very next year, her first major work, a String Quartet, was performed for the first time. She also taught at the Pablo Sarasate Conservatory of Music in Pamplona.
Maria Dolores Malumbres got married and raised her family. Later, from 1980 to 1987, she returned to her music studies. She learned from many well-known composers and musicians. These included Carmelo Bernaola, Luis de Pablo, Luigi Nono, Pedro Espinosa, Agustín González, and Albert Sarda Acilu. Maria Dolores was a member of the Association of Women in Music. Her musical pieces have been played in many countries around the world. A book about her life and music, called The music keys Dolores Malumbres M., was published in 2009.
