Mariano Ramón Sánchez was born in Valencia. He started his art studies at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid. This was a very famous art school.

Working for the Kings
Mariano Ramón Sánchez became a favorite painter of the Spanish kings. King Carlos III asked him to paint many pictures. In 1791, King Carlos IV gave him a special title. He named Sánchez pintor de camara, which means 'chamber painter'. This was a high honor. It meant he was an official artist for the royal family.
