Writing Career and Impact

This led to the creation of the Western Association of Writers. Marie was a co-founder of this important group. She served as its secretary from the very beginning. She held this role until June 1888. Marie knew many famous writers from the Western United States. She was always a key person at the group's yearly meetings. People remembered her as a great talker. Marie Louise Andrews worked very hard to start and build the Western Association of Writers. Even though she didn't publish books, she was a skilled writer. She wrote many poems, essays, and short stories. These were published in different magazines and newspapers.

Her interest in writing was more than just personal. She cared deeply about developing literature in the western states. She wanted it to be recognized by the whole country and the world. She had thought about these ideas for a long time. The association helped many talented writers become known to the public. Marie was one of the most active people in starting the group. She was also a loyal friend to it, even when its future seemed uncertain.

Poem: "Compensation"

There are smiles in the morning and tears at night,
  The wide world over,
There are hopes in the morning and prayers at night
  For many a rover.

There are tears unwept and songs unsung,
  And human anguish keen,
And hopes and fears and smiles and tears,
  But the blessings fall between!
