Marilyn Tucker Quayle was born on July 29, 1949. She is an American lawyer and writer. She is married to Dan Quayle, who was the 44th Vice President of the United States. Marilyn Quayle served as the Second Lady of the United States from 1989 to 1993.

Early Life and Education
Marilyn Tucker was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was the fourth of six children. Her parents, Mary Alice and Warren Samuel Tucker, were both doctors. Her family had a strong Christian background.
She went to Broad Ripple High School. After that, she earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Purdue University. While in college, she was a pompom girl and treasurer of her freshman class.
Later, she studied law at night. She earned her law degree (J.D.) from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. This is where she met Dan Quayle. They worked together on a draft of Indiana's death penalty law. They quickly fell in love and got married on November 18, 1972. In 1974, both Marilyn and Dan passed their bar exams.
Career and Public Service
After law school, Marilyn and Dan moved to Huntington, Indiana. They opened their own law office called Quayle and Quayle. Marilyn did most of the legal work. Dan worked for his father's newspaper and prepared to enter politics.
In 1976, Dan was elected to Congress as a Republican. They then stopped their law practice. In 1980, he was elected to the Senate.
Role as Second Lady

In 1988, Dan Quayle became the Vice President alongside George H. W. Bush. Marilyn was always a close advisor to her husband. She also campaigned on her own during the presidential election.
As the Second Lady, she took on a traditional role as a hostess. She was also a very involved mother to her three young children. She worked to support causes like early diagnosis of breast cancer. Her own mother had passed away from breast cancer at age 56.
Marilyn Quayle also wrote a novel with her sister Nancy. The book is called Embrace the Serpent. It is a thriller about the wife of a vice president.
Later Activities
During the 1992 presidential campaign, Marilyn was very active. She gave a speech at the 1992 Republican National Convention. She spent over 40 days traveling to campaign. Her speeches often focused on "family values" and she was popular with conservative voters.
Bush and Quayle lost the election that year. The Quayles moved back to Huntington, Indiana. Marilyn joined a law firm in Indianapolis. Later, the couple moved to Arizona.
Marilyn Quayle has also narrated advertisements for political candidates. In 1996, she narrated an ad for Stephen Goldsmith, who was running for governor in Indiana. In 2010, she narrated an ad for Karen Handel, a candidate for governor in Georgia.
Family Life
Marilyn and Dan Quayle live in Paradise Valley, Arizona. They have three children. Their two sons are Tucker and Benjamin. Benjamin served in the United States House of Representatives from 2011 to 2013. Their daughter is named Corinne.
