Mario Mola Díaz is a famous Spanish triathlete. He was born on February 23, 1990, in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Mario is best known for being a three-time World Champion in triathlon. He won these titles in 2016, 2017, and 2018.
Mario has also competed in the Olympic Games multiple times. He finished 19th at the London Olympics in 2012, 8th at the Rio Olympics in 2016, and 10th at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. Besides his gold medals, he also earned silver medals in the ITU World Triathlon Series in 2014, 2015, and 2019, and a bronze in 2013.

Mario Mola's Sports Journey
Mario Mola started swimming when he was just five years old in Palma de Mallorca, where he grew up. He didn't begin riding a racing bike until he was 15. In 2005, Mario started taking part in junior triathlon races.
Since 2006, he has been a part of the Spanish National Team. By 2008, he was already considered one of the best triathlon athletes in the world. He also competed for different clubs in France and Germany. For example, he won a gold medal in Düsseldorf, Germany, in 2012.
Becoming a Junior Champion
In 2009, Mario Mola achieved a big milestone: he became the Triathlon Junior World Champion. This showed everyone that he was a rising star in the sport. He continued to compete in important races, including the European Championships.
Olympic Dreams and Early Success
Mario made his Olympic debut at the London Olympic Games in 2012, where he finished 19th. The next year, in June 2013, he earned a bronze medal at the European Championship in the Olympic distance race.
In 2014, Mario had a fantastic year, finishing second overall in the 2014 ITU World Triathlon Series. He was just behind his fellow Spanish competitor, Javier Gomez. Mario continued his strong performance in 2015, winning the first race of the season in Abu Dhabi and the last race in Chicago. He again placed second overall in the 2015 ITU World Triathlon Series, once more behind Javier Gomez.
In March 2016, Mario won another ITU World Triathlon Series race in Abu Dhabi. Later that year, he represented Spain at the Rio Olympic Games, where he finished in 8th place.
Three-Time World Champion

Mario Mola became a world champion for the first time in 2016. At the final race of the season in Mexico, he finished 5th, which was enough to crown him the short-distance triathlon world champion. He won by a very close margin of just 4 points over Jonathan Brownlee.
In 2017, Mario, then 27 years old, successfully defended his title. He won four out of nine races in the 2017 ITU World Triathlon Series, proving he was still the best. His amazing performance led to him being named the ETU athlete of the year for 2017.
He didn't stop there! In 2018, at the grand final in Australia, Mario Mola was crowned world champion for the third time in a row. This incredible achievement showed his consistent dominance in the sport. That year, he also earned a lot of prize money, showing how successful he was.
Mario Mola is married to Carolina Routier, who is also a triathlete. Besides his busy career as a professional athlete, he also studies economics.
