Mario Monteforte Toledo (born September 15, 1911 – died September 4, 2003) was an important writer and politician from Guatemala. He was known for his amazing stories and for serving his country in different government roles. He was born in Guatemala City.

A Life of Service and Stories
Mario Monteforte Toledo played key roles in the Guatemalan government. He worked under presidents Juan José Arévalo and Jacobo Arbenz. From 1946 to 1947, he was an Ambassador to the United Nations. This means he represented Guatemala to the world.
Working in Congress
From 1947 to 1951, he was a deputy in the National Congress of Guatemala. This is like being a member of parliament. He helped make laws for the country. He even became the President of the Congress.
Becoming Vice President
Between 1948 and 1949, Mario Monteforte Toledo served as the Vice-President of Guatemala. This was a very important job. He retired from politics in 1951.
Life in Exile
After the government of President Arbenz changed in 1954, Monteforte moved to Mexico. He lived there until 1987. This period away from his home country is called exile.
