Marion is a small community in Flathead County, Montana, United States. It is not an official city but a "census-designated place." This means it's an area that the government defines for counting people.

History of Marion

Marion was started in 1891 by the Great Northern Railway. It was a special stop for a short train line coming from Kalispell. For about ten years, from 1892 to 1902, this part of the railway was important. It connected Columbia Falls and Libby through a place called Haskell Pass. The post office in Marion opened in 1892.

The train tracks between Kalispell and Marion were no longer used after the 1940s. Today, part of the old railway has become the Great Northern Historical Trail. This trail is a great place for walking or biking.

Location and Surroundings

Marion is located just off U.S. Route 2. It is about 21 miles away from the city of Kalispell. A beautiful natural feature near the community is Little Bitterroot Lake.

Education in Marion

Students in Marion attend schools run by the Marion School District 54. The school teams are known as the Panthers.

Marion also has a public library. It is a part of the larger Flathead County Library system.
