Mark is a small village located in Putnam County, Illinois, United States. In 2020, about 519 people called Mark home. This village is part of the larger Ottawa Micropolitan Statistical Area. Mark also has strong connections with its nearby community, Granville, Illinois.
The Story of Mark Village
The village of Mark was started in 1903. It was founded by the St. Paul Coal Company. They opened a coal mine here, and a man named James Cherry was in charge. The mine was later sold to Prairie State Coal in 1928. It continued to operate for many years until it finally closed down in 1940.
