About Mark Walden's Life
Mark Walden went to Bablake School in Coventry for seven years. After that, he studied English Literature at Newcastle University. He also earned a master's degree in Literature, Film, and Television.

Mark Walden is married to Sarah, and they have a daughter named Megan. They also have a cat called Marge. Before becoming a writer, Mark spent ten years designing and producing video games. He left the gaming world to focus on writing and being a full-time dad. He often jokes that he is "the world's laziest man."
Mark Walden's First Book
Mark Walden's first book, H.I.V.E., was released in September 2006. This book was chosen as a winner in Richard and Judy's 'Best Kids' Books Ever' competition. A big movie company, Paramount Pictures, even bought the rights to make it into a film. Since his first book, Mark Walden has written seven more books in the H.I.V.E. series. Aftershock was released in August 2011, and Deadlock, a semi-sequel, came out in June 2013.

H.I.V.E. stands for Higher Institute of Villainous Education. It is a series of young adult fiction novels written by Mark Walden. This secret school teaches children how to become criminal masterminds. Only kids who have already shown some special "villainous" skills are invited to join.
Main Character: Otto Malpense
The main character is a thirteen-year-old genius named Otto Malpense. He is one of the smartest, most athletic, and tech-savvy kids in the world. Otto, along with other talented young people, is chosen to be part of H.I.V.E. However, once Otto arrives at the school, he quickly realizes that things are not what they seem. He then tries to uncover the secrets behind the school and its mysterious organization.
