History of Marquette
Marquette was officially planned and laid out in 1882. This happened when the Burlington and Missouri River Railroad decided to extend its tracks to this spot. The village was named after Thomas M. Marquette, who was an important official for the railroad company. Seven years later, in 1889, Marquette officially became a village.
