As of the 2020 census, about 341 people lived there. Marshallberg is located on the mainland, right across Core Sound from Harkers Island. Beyond Harkers Island, you can find Cape Lookout.
Marshallberg is at the very southeastern tip of a peninsula. This makes it quite separate from other communities in Carteret County. Only one road connects it to the rest of the state.

Marshallberg is found in the eastern part of Carteret County. It has water on three sides. To the east, you'll find Core Sound. To the south, there are "The Straits." On the west, it's bordered by Sleepy Creek. Great Marsh Creek is to the northeast.
The community of Gloucester is located to the west, just across Sleepy Creek. The town of Beaufort is about 7 miles (11 km) away by water. By road, it's about 15 miles (24 km) to Beaufort.
