Before becoming a full-time politician, Marta worked as a lawyer. She also taught Administrative Law at the Police School of Catalonia. For a few years, she was in charge of support services at the Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation.
She was also involved in groups for young lawyers. She was a member of the Castellers Sagals d'Osona, which are groups that build human towers. She also helped out with the Red Cross.
Marta's Political Journey
Marta Rovira joined the Esquerra Republicana party in 2005. In 2008, she was chosen to be the National Secretary for International, European, and Cooperation politics for her party. She also served as the General Secretary of the European Free Alliance until 2012.
In 2011, she became the General Secretary of Esquerra Republicana. This meant she took on a big leadership role within the party, working closely with the party's president, Oriol Junqueras.
Marta was elected to the Parliament of Catalonia in 2012. From 2012 to 2015, she was the spokesperson for her party's group in the Parliament. In 2015, she was re-elected as part of a group called Junts pel Sí, which supported Catalonia becoming independent. She continued to be a spokesperson.
In the 2017 elections for the Catalan Parliament, Marta Rovira and Oriol Junqueras led their party's campaign in Barcelona. Their party, Esquerra Republicana, won 32 seats.
Marta Rovira cares deeply about human rights, especially women's rights. She also believes in social justice, which means everyone should be treated fairly. A big part of her political work is supporting the Catalan independence movement. This means she wants Catalonia to become its own country.
She believes in a system called republicanism. This idea focuses on what's best for everyone, making sure there are equal chances for all, being open and honest, and having no corruption. Marta thinks that these goals can best be achieved if Catalonia becomes an independent republic. She believes people in Catalonia should be able to vote on their future in a referendum.
